Location

Gleann Dearg is a farmhouse bed and breakfast that is located on the Slea Head Road, within ½km from the centre of Dunquin. It is set on an 30 acre farm which backs up onto the lower slopes of Mount Eagle. The views from the front of the house are across the sea to the Blasket Islands. The Dingle Way walking trail is 1km away and the Wild Atlantic Way coastal drive passes by the front gate.

The House

The bed and breakfast is decorated in the style of a traditional farmhouse. It has a total of five guest bedrooms. There are two loft bedrooms with a double and single bed that share a bathroom. These are generally kept for small groups of walkers travelling together. Downstairs, two adjoining rooms with a double and three single beds are more suited for a large family group. There are also two double bedrooms on the ground floor with private bathrooms.

Tea and coffee making facilities are available in each of the bedrooms. Although there are no televisions in the bedrooms, there is one available in the Guest Lounge with a selection of Sky stations to choose from.

Dining Options

Guests are welcome to relax in the dining room during the afternoon and evening. It is located in the conservatory, amidst the grapevines which bear low-hanging fruit.

It should be noted that eating-out options in Dunquin are limited, so you need have made some arrangements before arriving. Evening meals are served at Gleann Dearg, provided notice is given the day before. Dinners can range from a light meal to a full three course meal. Lobster can also be served with a little extra advance notice and depending on weather conditions at sea.

The Farm

Gleann Dearg is set on a working farm. Both cows and sheep graze in the surrounding fields. There are usually pet lambs which can be easily beckoned to the house and who always love the attention of guests. Pippin and Jesse, the two sheep dogs, can also be found roaming in the garden.

Walkers

Walkers on the Dingle Way should note that Gleann Dearg can prepare a packed lunch once there is enough advance notice. They can also transfer your luggage on to the next accommodation on your route. Drying facilities are also available for wet gear.
